One Day

“One Day” is the 1^st of October, when seven artists, Nguyen Phan Bach, Le Thiet Cuong, Nguyen The Dzung, Dao Hai Phong, Pham Tran Quan, Le Thi Minh Tam, and Nguyen Dinh Vu, stepped out of their studios to paint in the open air.

“One Day” is a special day, the 1000^th anniversary of Hanoi, a day unlike any other for, instead of working inside, it is about getting out to paint first-hand such scenery as the The Huc and Long Bien bridges, the Hang Dau water tower, and the Temple of Literature, those familiar names and places that have become the symbols of Hanoi.

“One Day” is a single day allotted to paint these landmarks, in order to collectively create a portrait of the one thousand year old city of Hanoi, though it can be understood that this is also a portrait of Hanoi on the 1^st of October.

“One Day” is the day that seven artists painted Hanoi, while the eighth member of the group, photographer Tran Quoc Khanh, took pictures of the artists and the ninth member, cameraman Vu Duc Tung, filmed them. It seems that there already exists an abundance of photographs and film of Hanoi’s sights and scenery, though there is little of the artists themselves painting it. While there are many painting exhibits out there, of scenic Hanoi in particular, viewers continue to crave for images of the artists at work, of their trade operations, of the story behind the painting; in short, of all the little details that create a work of art.

“One Day” is not just a superficial memory that nine artists share among themselves, but rather is the memory that everyone has of Hanoi, each person a different memory of the same Hanoi, including this one day.

Một ngày tức là 1.10.2010 bảy họa sĩ Nguyễn Phan Bách, Lê Thiết Cương, Nguyễn Thế Dung, Đào Hải Phong, Phạm Trần Quân, Lê Thị Minh Tâm, Nguyễn Đìn Vũ cùng nhau bước ra khỏi xưởng họa của mình để đi vẽ ngoài trời.

Long Biên Bridge-Cầu Long Biên 

Một ngày tức là một ngày dặc biệt, ngày sinh nhật Hà Nội tuổi 1000, một ngày không như mọi ngày ngồi vẽ tranh trong nhà, mà ra ngoài vẽ trực  trực họa phong cảnh Hà Nội: cầu Thê Húc, cầu Long Bien, tháp nước Hàng Đậu, Văn Miếu,...những cảnh những  đã quen, đã thành biểu tượng của Hà Nội.

Một ngày tức là chỉ vẽ trong một ngày 1.10.2010 những cảnh tiêu biểu  đó để cùng nhau vẽ một bức chân dung của Hà Nội, thành phố nghìn tuổi, nhưng cũng có thể hiểu là chân dung của Hà Nội trong cái ngày 1.10 đó, trong một ngày đó.
